Driver tried to force woman to sell sex
A driver has been jailed for trying to push a penniless woman - who claims she was brought here to work as a housemaid for an Emirati family, into prostitution.
Dubai: A driver has been jailed for trying to push a penniless woman - who claims she was brought here to work as a housemaid for an Emirati family, into prostitution.
The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the 36-year-old Indian driver, M.S., to three years in jail followed by deportation. M.S. denied the charges.
The court earlier sentenced M.S's 32-year-old compatriot housewife, K.M., to three years in jail for beating and trying to force the 30-year-old Indian woman, S.N., to work in the sex industry.
S.N. said she was taken from the airport to a flat in October.
"M.S. claimed that he worked as a driver for my local sponsor. He drove me to a flat where I was kept until K.M. said she would take me to my sponsor. I didn't feel comfortable because there were three other girls.
"On that evening, K.M. told me that I would be sleeping with men. I refused, cried and begged her to repatriate me or send me to my Emirati sponsor. K.M. said I had to pay her 300,000 Indian rupees (Dh27,779) if I wanted to return to my country," said the victim.
"The next day I met a man wearing national dress who spoke fluently in an Indian language. The man who I was told would be my sponsor had an Indian woman with him. M.S. drove us to a flat where they asked me to enter, but I refused. He drove me back to the flat of K.M. who beat me before I managed to run away and report the matter to police," said S.N.
Flat invite: Manager denies rape
A services manager has denied attempting to rape a 23-year-old woman in her flat while drunk, a court heard on Tuesday.
The 39-year-old British suspect, S.O., pleaded guilty to consuming alcohol but pleaded innocent to attempted rape before the Dubai Court of First Instance.
The Public Prosecution charged the suspect with consuming liquor and attempting to rape the 23-year-old Dutch woman, E.B., after he pushed her on her bed, undressed her and tried to initiate sexual intercourse with her.
Records said the victim defended herself and foiled the suspect's attempts to rape her in her flat.
E.B. told the public prosecution: "I met the suspect and his female friend at the poolside in our building. He invited us for a drink in his flat. Thereafter, the suspect and I went to my flat where we consumed too much liquor. He took me into the bedroom where he undressed and tried to have sex with me, but I foiled his attempt. I phoned my friend and told him what happened before he arrived followed by the police."
The 24-year-old American friend, S.P., testified: "I heard the suspect from behind the door shouting 'where is my whisky!' then counting '5,4,3,2,' until the victim opened the door. E.B. was frightened and hid behind a door. She didn't tell me what happened but she cried."
A British witness, T.R., claimed: "The victim invited the suspect and I to check out her apartment. She was too drunk. S.O. and I left the apartment together. I don't know what happened thereafter, but I guess the suspect returned to his place."
A verdict will be given soon.
