Dubai: A bus driver sustained serious injuries after he jumped a red signal and collided with a cement mixer on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Police said the accident took place near Dubai Investment Park after a Pakistan driver of a 14-passenger capacity bus jumped a red signal and collided with a cement mixer that was on its right way. The bus was empty.
The bus driver sustained serious injuries and had to be airlifted to Rashid Hospital. The accident triggered huge tailbacks and police had to close the road for the helicopter to land.
Meanwhile, motorists using Emirates Road got stuck in long traffic jam on Tuesday morning after a truck carrying sand overturned near Al Warqa'a Bridge.
Police said the truck driver sustained minor injuries, but the road was clogged for several hours as the sand had spilled on to the road and it took time to remove the sand and ease traffic flow.
