Driver jailed for stealing money from employer
A man who used a duplicate key to steal cash from the tailor's shop where he worked has been jailed.
Dubai: A man who used a duplicate key to steal cash from the tailor's shop where he worked has been jailed.
After the 31-year-old driver admitted that he had duplicated the key which he used to unlock and walk into the tailor's shop after closing hours, the Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced him to six months in jail followed by deportation. Records said the accused made a copy of the tailor shop's main door key and stole Dh8,000 cash from the register on several occasions. He said he transferred the money to his needy family back home. The defendant, M.H., was cited in his confession to the Public Prosecution as saying that he had only taken Dh3,500.
The Public Prosecution charged M.H. with stealing Dh8,000 during a period of 45 days. He pleaded guilty when he appeared in court.
A 42-year-old tailor testified in his statement: "At first we discovered that Dh3,000 was missing from the register ... we didn't report the robbery to the police because we wanted to maintain the shop's reputation and we didn't expose the thief. A month later a similar amount was discovered missing from the register. The shop owner reported [the matter to] the police as soon as he discovered that another Dh2,000 had been taken from the register."
A police squad monitored the shop and caught the accused. The verdict is still subject to appeal within 15 days.
