Abu Dhabi: At 9pm on Monday, a speeding car heading away from the Abu Dhabi city on the Eastern Ring road knocked down a pedestrian. The accident came as a surprise to the police authorities who are familiar with hit-and-run cases where the driver flees the scene because this time it was not just the driver but also the victim who fled the scene.
"Following the accident, the driver ran away from the scene. We traced the owner of the car and got the driver," a police official told Gulf News. But, the pedestrian victim is still "out at large". "Blood was found at the accident scene but it seems like no major injuries were caused. Despite checking government hospitals for the victim, we could not trace the person yet."
Going by the circumstances, the victim could have been someone staying in the country illegally, the official said.
