Sharjah: Sharjah police have arrested a domestic worker on charges of killing a man in Sharjah, a police official told Gulf News.
Police said that the Ethiopian housemaid who works for an Emirati family in Sharjah murdered the driver who worked for the same family.
Police said that housemaid was reportedly in love with the driver, also an Ethiopian, but killed him after she discovered that he was to marry another girl.
She allegedly smashed his head with a heavy metal bar.
Incident
"He was found dead in his room," the police said. The incident happened in the driver's room in the same villa.
Police said the housemaid had admitted to police that she murdered him because he abandoned her for another girl.
Police said the driver spent two years with the family before his murder in the last week of Ramadan.
"The sponsors used to believe that their housemaid is the driver's sister," a police officer said.
According to police, the driver brought his fiancée from Ethiopia to work for another Emirati family.
Jealousy
"The accused housemaid felt jealous and she decided to end her lover's life," police said.
The police said that the case has been transferred to public prosecutor for further investigation while the accused housemaid and her sister have been detained at the Sharjah Central jail awaiting trial at the Sharia court.
