Former housemaid admits she took money for sex, saying it was an easy way of making cash
Dubai: An Indonesian woman, who was found to be working in prostitution after she jumped from a building’s second floor for unknown reasons, has been jailed for six months.
The 36-year-old woman, A.F., admitted working as a prostitute when she appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance.
Records said A.F. worked as a housemaid for an Emirati sponsor for nearly five months before she absconded and decided it was easier to make money working as a prostitute.
Presiding judge Wajdi Al Menyawi said the defendant will be deported after serving her punishment. A.F.’s working in prostitution came to light after she leapt from the second floor flat of a building in Al Nahda.
Available records did not disclose the reasons for her plunge.
An Egyptian electrician said he spotted a group of bystanders surrounding the woman after she jumped from the second floor.
According to the charge sheet, A.F. had sex with strangers for money.
In unclear Arabic, the Indonesian woman earlier told the court: “I slept with strange men and took money from them.”
The Egyptian witness claimed he saw the woman after she fell from the building on November 19.
Prosecution records cited the defendant as admitting that she came to Dubai on a labour visa on November 14, 2010.
A.F. said: “I was hired as a housemaid and worked for an Emirati family for five months. Then I absconded and continued working as a housemaid in different places for over a year. In November 2012, I worked as a prostitute and used to have sex with five men per day… I used to charge Dh300-Dh400 per client. I worked in the same place where I lived and worked as a masseuse as well.”
Monday’s judgement remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
