Dubai: A cleaner has been jailed for six months for trespassing into a British woman’s bedroom and molesting her while she was asleep beside her husband.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 28-year-old Sri Lankan cleaner of groping the British woman after sneaking into her bedroom under the influence of liquor.
Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad said the accused, S.P. will be deported after he completes his term. The defendant will also be prosecuted for consuming liquor before the Dubai Misdemeanors Court soon.
Prosecutors said S.P. consumed liquor and trespassed into the British family’s bedroom and molested the woman.
“I am guilty… I molested her while I was under the influence of liquor,” said S.P. when he appeared in court.
According to the arraignment sheet, prosecutors charged S.P. of molesting the woman, trespassing into her villa at night and drinking alcohol.
The British woman testified that the incident happened early morning in October around 4am while she slept beside her husband.
“While I slept in my bedroom, I felt someone’s hand on my back and thought it was my son… because I had seen someone moving out of the bedroom in the dark. Immediately I woke up my husband because I thought our son was sleepwalking. When I went to my son’s bedroom I recognised that he was asleep,” the woman claimed to prosecutors.
Prosecution records did not mention how the suspect was arrested or identified.
S.P. admitted that he was intoxicated when he trespassed into the villa in Jumairah and groped the British woman.
The primary judgment remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
