Dubai: A 23-year-old cleaner, who claims to have found 15,000 euros under the bed of his colleague, was hauled to court yesterday on a charge that he was part of a conspiracy to rob their company.

Prosecutors accused the Filipino, identified only as R.S., of possessing the money which was reportedly part of the loot.

"I am not guilty. I only found the money but I didn't steal it. I want a swift judgment," said the defendant as he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance.

The company had reportedly lost 20,000 euros and Dh265,000 when two of its Sri Lankan staff allegedly stole the money and fled the country.

One of the suspects, identified only as N.R., shared a room with the defendant.

Prosecutors claim the principal suspects paid the defendant 15,000 euros as hush money.

According to the charge sheet, N.R., a driver, and R.N., a clerk, allegedly broke into the company's office and took the money. They then took their passports from a safe before going to the airport where they boarded their flight.

The company's car which the suspects used in their getaway was found in the airport parking area.
