Dubai A cleaner was cleared of threatening to kill an eight-year-old schoolboy if he told anyone that he allegedly molested him in school, ruled a court yesterday.

Prosecutors had charged the 40-year-old Nepalese cleaner of sexually molesting the Emirati pupil and threatening to kill him if he reported the alleged abuse.

"I am not guilty ... I didn't molest or touch his buttocks. What really happened is that there was a group of noisy children gathered in school, when I asked them to leave the premises I pushed the eight-year-old from [behind]. I didn't grope his buttocks," argued the cleaner, R.B., when he defended himself before the Dubai Court of First Instance.

Acquitted

The boy's mother testified to prosecutors that her son told her that the defendant groped him, and took him to the school's restroom.

Presiding Judge Al Saeed Mohammad Barghout acquitted R.B. over uncorroborated evidence.

Yesterday's judgment remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
