Dubai: Time can wipe away memories, but the law never forgets.
Fifteen years ago, a Lebanese businessman committed fraud and was charged with swindling. But he managed to flee the country and was untraceable until he decided to pay Dubai a visit.
On Friday the man landed at Dubai airport to visit his family. He thought the sins of the past would not haunt him. In fact, he even fancied a job here. As soon as the man produced his passport, officials realised he was wanted 15 years ago, police said.
The man was taken to Naif police station because it was handling the old case. He was arrested and faces legal proceedings.
"There have been several such cases in the past. But each time an accused has landed, the person was arrested," a police official said.
