Businessman jailed for forcing himself on saleswoman
Prosecutors said the Chinese saleswoman, L.Y., fought off Indian businessman A.A.'s, attempt to outrage her modesty.
Dubai: A businessman faces three years in jail after a court convicted him on Sunday of attempting to rape a saleswoman at the company where they worked.
Prosecutors said the Chinese saleswoman, L.Y., fought off Indian businessman A.A.'s, attempt to outrage her modesty.
The Dubai Court of First Instance handed down the jail term to A.A. after Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir found him guilty of attempted rape and molestation.
The accused will be deported after the completion of his jail term.
According to the chargesheet, prosecutors accused A.A., 37, of pushing L.Y., 30, on to a bed and then asked to have sex with her. When she rejected his overtures, he tried to rape her.
Grabbed arm
In her statement to prosecutors, L.Y. said: "Around noontime I informed the defendant that I was heading to my room [which is located in the company's premises]… he asked me to stay because he was waiting for a client to pick some merchandise. Then he came to my room and asked me about my colleague who was outside. To my surprise, he grabbed me by my arm and pushed me into the room and then threw me over my bed. He tried to molest me. I fought him and tried to prevent him from abusing me, but he didn't stop and continued his attempt to rape me."
Records quoted L.Y. alleging that A.A. had molested her a number of times prior to the incident.
The judgment is subject to appeal within 15 days.
