Brothers deny vandalising cars belonging to plaintiff and his sister

Dubai: Two brothers have strongly denied charges that they vandalised two cars belonging to a woman and her brother because the latter harassed their sisters in a mall, a court heard on Monday.

"We destroyed the cars? No, that's absolutely untrue and didn't happen," argued one of the brothers, a 20-year-old Emirati student, H.D., when he pleaded not guilty before the Dubai Court of First Instance.

Prosecutors charged H.D., his 19-year-old brother M.D. and their 23-year-old compatriot, A.A., with committing acts of vandalism and damaging two cars.

"I am not guilty," M.D. told Presiding Judge Hamad Abdul Latif Abdul Jawad.

Harassment

Prosecutor Salim Bin Khadim, who represented the Public Prosecution in yesterday's hearing, said: "We ask the court to implement the toughest punishment applicable. During questioning, the defendants admitted their charges which they claimed they did because the victim harassed their sisters."

The Public Prosecution charged the trio with damaging the cars of 23-year-old Emirati employee, N.S., and his sister. According to the charges sheet, the vehicles were written off.

N.S. alleged in his testimony that some friends informed him after the incident that the suspects attacked his car because they thought he had harassed the suspect's sisters at the Mall of the Emirates.

The court will hand down its verdict on November 19. However, the third suspect, A.A., failed to appear in court on Monday.
