Dubai: The Dubai Misdemeanors Court yesterday sentenced Emirati businessman Abid Al Boom to a year's imprisonment for issuing a bad cheque for Dh1.13 million.

Presiding Judge Rifaat Tolba Othman convicted Al Boom, owner of Abid Al Boom Management and Development Properties, of signing the cheque.

Al Boom's lawyer Ali Al Falasi told Gulf News that they appealed the judgment.

According to the Criminal Procedures Law, Al Boom, who is out on bail, should turn himself in to Dubai Public Prosecution's Criminal Rulings Execution Section for the implementation of the sentence.
