Al Ain: Al Ain Police foiled an attempt to sell a fake Pharaohs' antique piece that was in the shape of a beetle.

Tests carried out on the piece proved that it had been recently made and hand finished to give it an antique look.

The test revealed that the beetle, shaped like old Pharaohs' and Phoenician pieces from the first and second millennia BC, had no historic value and recommended that it be confiscated.

Police said the suspect, who tried to sell the pieces, claimed he was doing so because of his tight financial situation.

Details of the operation were unveiled by Colonel Hamad Ajlan Al Omaima, Director of Al Ain Police, who called on all residents to cooperate with the police and report any criminal activity to protect their security.

Abdullah Al Shamsi, Director of Al Ain city Police station, said police received a tip that A. A. B., a 25-year-old Arab driver was showing a fake antique for sale.

Apprehended

After verifying the information, legal and operational measures were taken to arrest the suspect, who was caught red-handed with the money he had received from the victim who had bought the fake piece.

The suspect was referred to prosecution.
