Visitor termed herself dumb in court Monday before being charged with smuggling 2.6kg of cocaine
Dubai A visitor termed herself dumb in court Monday before being charged with smuggling 2.6 kilograms of cocaine.
"I am sorry sir. I am dumb and it was stupid enough of me that I did not examine what kind of substance I carried from Nigeria. I thought that I was carrying some kind of food supply," said the Nigerian woman visitor, 34, when she appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance.
Drug prosecutors accused B.O. of smuggling and possessing 190 capsules containing 2.6 kilograms of cocaine.
"I did not know what substance I was carrying. A friend gave it to me at the airport and asked me to hand it over to another person. That person was supposed to pick it up from me at the Dubai International Airport. I am sorry your honour," said B.O. when she defended herself before Presiding Judge Maher Salama Al Mahdi.
190 capsules
An Emirati customs inspector testified; "I suspected the defendant's luggage and asked to search her bags. The scanner exposed some kind of oval pieces hidden between food supplies. My colleague searched the bag. She discovered inside it small plastic sacks that contained white materials that looked like flour. The sacks contained nearly 190 white capsules."
A judgement will be heard on February 27.
