Dubai: Police have geared up their interaction with Dubai Municipality as part of its efforts to reduce the isolated crimes that occur among the youth.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Chief of Dubai Police, told reporters that a nationwide survey was carried out at the beginning of the year and recorded that up to 99 per cent of residents feel safe in the country.

“The crimes carried out by the youth, such as teenagers using knives, are isolated incidents and do not happen often. To completely stop these types of crimes, we are increasing our interaction with Dubai Municipality so that more facilities will be available in residential neighbourhoods,” explained Lt Gen Dahi.

“To stop fights from breaking out, we have proposed more football pitches and parks to be built so that teenagers can keep themselves busy playing sports,” he said, noting that the announcements will be made as soon as they are finalised.

Although the findings from residents in other emirates were not revealed, Dubai Police revealed the statistics from Dubai, which indicated that residents were satisfied with the quick response of dispatched police patrols to accident scenes.

As many as 96 per cent of respondents said they felt safe when riding a taxi at night, 98.6 per cent felt safe and secure in Dubai, and 96.4 per cent said they believed that the efforts of police to prevent crime was sufficient.
