Abu Dhabi: Some 3,371 visa violators were caught in the UAE, including 21 beggars, during Ramadan, the Abu Dhabi Police announced.

The Ministry of Interior has urged members of the public to help tackle this issue by alerting the authorities of any violators via its ‘Sahem’ (‘contribute’ in Arabic) service by calling 80080.

Inspections conducted by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in various areas of the capital resulted in capturing 824 violators, 501 of whom were caught in Al Ain. Legal action will be taken against them.

An additional 539 violators were apprehended in Dubai and another 554 were found in Sharjah and 437 in Ajman.

Finally, 123 others were seized in Umm Al Quwain while 326 were caught in Ras Al Khaimah and 67 in Fujairah.

In May, 80 residency violators were apprehended in Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah, comprising 53 men and 27 women.

Officials said that these inspections are being conducted throughout the country and are part of authorities’ efforts to stop illegal immigrants coming to the country.

This phenomenon poses a danger to society and anyone found hiring violators will face legal action, officials added.
