14-year-old girl jailed for consensual sex
The case was treated as an instance of consensual sex between her and the driver by the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance.
Abu Dhabi: A 14-year-old girl who initially claimed she was raped by a bus driver was yesterday sentenced to six months in prison followed by deportation.
The case was treated as an instance of consensual sex between her and the driver by the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance. The driver received a sentence of one year imprisonment followed by deportation.
Court papers showed that the girl is of Brazilian origin, while her alleged assailant is a 25-year-old Pakistani. The incident reportedly took place in an undisclosed apartment on April 3.
Although the girl's father had initially filed rape charges against the driver, court investigators found that she had been in touch with her assailant before the incident.
Intimate
"She had been sending very intimate pictures of herself to the accused, some of which included nude pictures, … and also used to send him text messages," the presiding judge, Chief Justice Saeed Abdul Bashir, head of the criminal justice section at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, told Gulf News.
