Dubai: A waiter has been accused of pulling a drunk woman, who had just left a nightclub at a luxurious hotel, into a dark corridor where he raped her.

The 23-year-old Egyptian waiter, M.S., was said to have pulled the inebriated Belarussian woman once she walked out of the Jumeirah nightclub to a corridor where he raped her and robbed her Dh1,500 in September.

Prosecutors accused M.S. of molesting the woman, raping her and stealing her money.

The defendant strongly denied his charges when he entered an innocent plea before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Tuesday.

“You did not do that or nothing happened at all?” presiding judge Mohammad Jamal asked the suspect in courtroom three.

“That did not happen,” replied the suspect.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said M.S. abused the fact that the Belarussian was drunk before pushing her down to the ground and raping her. When she resisted the suspect and tried to prevent him from raping her, he molested her. He was also charged with using physical violence to steal her money.

The Belarussian testified that the defendant attacked her once she left the nightclub at 3am.

“He threw me down to the floor and raped me … he did not complete what he had started. He stole my money from my purse and absconded,” she claimed.

A police lieutenant testified to prosecutors that they were informed about a rape in a hotel in Jumeirah.

“When we questioned the Belarussian, she alleged that suspect stopped her for unknown reasons. She claimed that when she tried to push him away, he dragged her to a dark corridor where he had sex with her against her will. The defendant was arrested at his residence where we found Dh1,000 in his possession,” claimed the lieutenant.

During Tuesday’s trial, the suspect’s lawyer asked the court to hear the woman’s statement.

“Is she still in Dubai?” presiding judge Jamal asked the lawyer.

“Yes she is. Her passport is in police custody as she is involved in a criminal case,” replied the lawyer.

The trial continues.
