Dubai A visitor has been sentenced to three months in jail for groping a waitress at a shisha cafe while he was under the influence of alcohol.
The 36-year-old Saudi visitor, F.A., groped the Filipina waitress and when she yelled at him he touched her again while she was taking his order at the café on Shaikh Zayed Road.
The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced F.A. in absentia after he failed to show up in court and enter a plea.
The Filipina told prosecutors that she went to the table to take the order of the accused, who was with his friends in August.
“They were four clients. In the beginning he put his finger on my stomach… I told him to stop. Then he said ‘this is not silly, what is coming next is silly’… then he groped me on top. Then he and his friends laughed,” the waitress told prosecutors.
An Egyptian waiter at the café said he spotted F.A. touching the Filipina indecently.
Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi said the accused will be deported following the completion of his punishment.
Meanwhile the Dubai Misdemeanours Court fined the Saudi defendant Dh1000 for consuming liquor.
As per the Criminal Procedures Law, the accused is entitled a retrial as soon as he surrenders himself since he was sentenced in absentia.
