Dubai: A salesman has been jailed for three months after he pointed a knife in a typist’s face and threatened to stab him if he called the police.

The 41-year-old Bangladeshi salesman, M.M., was said to have stormed into the typist’s residence and threatened him verbally in June.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted M.M. of verbally threatening to stab his 31-year-old countryman, M.C., despite having entered a not guilty plea.

When the defendant appeared in court, he admitted that he threatened the victim verbally but contended that he never had any intention to kill or harm the victim.

He claimed to the court that he just intended to warn the claimant not to call the police.

“The accused will be deported following the completion of his jail term,” said presiding judge Ezzat Abdul Lat in courtroom on Monday.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said the defendant threatened the victim, saying that he would stab him in his stomach.

The typist testified to prosecutors that the incident happened inside his bedroom when the convict came banging on his door at 1am.

“When I answered the door, he stormed inside and screamed. Then he walked into the kitchen and picked up a knife and came back to the room. Pointing the knife in my face, he said, ‘If you call the police I will stab you in your stomach’,” claimed M.C.

The victim’s co-worker, a 45-year-old Bangladeshi typist, M.O., claimed to prosecutors that he witnessed what M.M. did and said.

“I heard a heated argument coming from M.C.’s room. When I came out of my room, I spotted M.M. shouting at the victim… then he grabbed a knife from the kitchen and threatened to stab M.C. if he called the police,” M.O. told prosecutors.

Records did not mention the reason why the convict threatened to stab the victim.

Monday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
