Dubai: A health club worker has been accused of trapping his female colleague inside an elevator, pointing a razor at her neck and trying to kiss her.

The 24-year-old Filipina was said to have pushed away her 33-year-old countryman worker, E.S., and jumped out of the elevator when he tried to force her to kiss him on December 21.

Records state that the woman and E.S. worked in different branches of the health club before the management coincidentally moved the defendant to the club’s branch in Mirdif in April 2013.

“He cornered me inside the elevator when I was going home around 1.30am. Then he pointed the razor at my neck and asked me to kiss. I pushed him away and jumped out of the elevator… the incident happened in December 2012. I informed a police patrol which I met outside the building… the defendant disappeared. In April when I realised that he was transferred to the same branch, I reported it to the police who arrested him,” claimed the Filipina.

Prosecutors accused the suspect of attempting to molest his countrywoman and threatening to kill her with a razor.

“No, I am not guilty. I did not threaten her or try to molest her,” argued the suspect when he defended himself before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday. His lawyer asked presiding judge Wajdi Al Menyawi to hear prosecution witnesses when the court reconvenes on December 12.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors said the suspect threatened to kill the woman of she refused to kiss him.

The 24-year-old testified that the suspect prevented her from walking out of the lift once it stopped on the floor where she lives.

“He looked outside to ensure that nobody was present. He refused to let me go out and took out a razor and pointed it at my neck. He warned me not to shout and said ‘I want to kiss you and you kiss me back and if you don’t do so I will kill you’. I pushed him and jumped out of the elevator once the door opened at the ground floor level… he ran away. Meanwhile I called the watchman to help me find the suspect.

“The suspect had disappeared. Police did not find him when I lodged a complaint. On April 2 I discovered that a new staff had been moved to the Mirdif branch. It turned out to be E.S., who recognised me as well. My friend asked me to inform the club’s management,” the woman claimed to prosecutors.

A Hungarian woman manager at the club testified that the victim came to her in tears and informed her what had happened.

Police recovered the razor in E.S.’s possession.
