Sharjah: A man who was found guilty of murdering an Emirati businessman by mowing him down with his own car was put to death by firing squad on Tuesday morning.

The case dates back to June 10, 2006. The murderer, identified as R.K.K., 26, from Sri Lanka, said he was sitting with the 56-year-old victim in his car in the Al Dhaid area. He demanded a sum of money for some work he had done but the victim refused to pay him. They then both got out of the car. Later, he got into the victim’s car in an attempt to steal it but the victim, identified as K.B.M.A.J., chased him on foot. R.K.K. then killed him by running him over.

Sharjah Police arrested the suspect on June 14 as he was trying to flee the country.

R.K.K. confessed to the crime.

The death sentence was handed out by the Supreme Court in 2006. The Sri Lankan failed to get a pardon from the victim’s family who refused to accept blood money.

The execution took place at Sharjah Central Jail.
