Dubai: A man has been accused of impersonating a policeman and molesting a female student while attempting to settle a dispute between three women over a flat share.

The 28-year-old Emirati man, A.A., was said to have beaten and molested the Libyan student, threatened her friend, a Jordanian woman, and told the Syrian landlady that he was a policeman.

Records said the Jordanian woman, G.A., was staying in the flat in Al Rigga until she had a dispute with her Syrian landlady, D.I. D.I wanted to force G.A. to share the flat with a Moroccan nanny.

The Libyan student, N.A., happened to be present with her friend, G.A. when the incident took place in December 2013. According to records, the nanny’s friend, an Uzbek woman was an acquaintance of the Emirati man, who worked in the armed forces.

Prosecution records said when the dispute took place, the Uzbek called up A.A. and asked him come to solve the matter as he had solved an earlier incident.

N.A. testified to prosecutors: “I was present with G.A. in the flat on the day when the suspect kicked the door open with his leg and stormed in. He asked in a loud voice ‘who is the bad-mouthed woman?’. When G.A. asked him who he was, he beat her on her face. When I tried to call the police from my mobile phone, he grabbed my belly and hips in an indecent manner. He claimed that he was a policeman.”

Meanwhile D.I. alleged that the defendant claimed that he was a policeman.

Prosecutors charged A.A. with beating and molesting the student and threatening to pull G.A. from her hair out of the flat if she refused to leave. He was also charged with trespass and posing as a policeman.

The suspect pleaded not guilty before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Wednesday.

The trial continues.
