Dubai: A housemaid has been accused of stealing a mobile phone and a gate’s remote control, both worth Dh3,100, from her sponsor’s home.
The Indonesian suspect, L.A., was accused by her sponsor Y.A. of stealing the two devices after he cancelled her visa and found out that she had absconded.
L.A. was charged with stealing a Nokia phone worth Dh2,800 containing a SIM card and the remote control of the gate to his house worth Dh300.
L.A. denied the charges in court.
The Emirati sponsor, who is a lawyer, accused the housemaid of stealing a mobile phone that his seven-year-old son uses but leaves at home, and the gate’s remote control, which she always carried.
The sponsor was sure that the housemaid was behind the theft after he discovered, on receiving his phone bill, that several international phone calls had been made over a period of five months to Indonesia and other countries.
A verdict will be heard on Monday.
