Dubai: A lecture titled Legal Empowerment Meet was held in Dubai on Monday as a part of a continuous legal awareness campaign to provide information on various legislation in India and the UAE.

The Indo-UAE Legal Summit 2014 lecture series event was jointly organised by the Dubai Judicial Institute (DJI) and Musthafa and Almana, International Lawyers.

Dr Jamal Al Sumaiti, DJI director-general, was the summit’s keynote speaker along with Justice Deepak Verma, a former judge of the Supreme Court of India, and Justice Ali Shamis Al Madhani, of DIFC Courts. Legal professionals, mostly Indian and Emirati lawyers, attended the event at the DJI premises.

The programme included high-profile speakers and legal experts such as Ahmad Saleh, director-general of the Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre, Mustafa Zafeer and Almana Zafeer of the co-hosts Musthafa and Almana firm, T. Asaf Ali, director-general of Prosecution, High Court of Kerala and Lalit Bhasin and Adish Aggarwala, Senior Advocates at the Supreme Court of India.

This year’s theme was Cross Border Legal Issues and Inheritance Laws and included topics about application and interpretation of Article 17 of the UAE Civil Transactions Law and Will Execution and Probating in UAE, inheritance laws, DIFC Court as an alternative platform for commercial disputes, doing business in the UAE and Corporate Governance as per UAE laws, cross-border dispute resolutions and arbitration and extra territorial jurisdictions and multi-jurisdictional family disputes and applicability in UAE courts.
