DUBAI An Emirati has been accused of raping his housemaid when she entered his room to iron his kandoura.
“I begged him to let me go, but he locked the door and ordered me to lie on the bed. I told him I was married, and that he too was married, but he would not listen. Instead, he twisted my arm and forced himself upon me. When I screamed, he covered my mouth and threatened to kill me if I did not shut up,” the 30-year-old Indonesian told the court on Wednesday. The man’s wife was in the hospital at the time of the incident.
She said the man routinely harassed her when they were alone. According to court records, on the night of the incident the man told the housemaid to give him a massage. When she refused, he allegedly approached her in the kitchen and asked her to iron his kandoura in his room. Records show that the Emirati gave the housemaid Dh200 after raping her. “When I refused the money he said he would break my hand if I did not take it,” she said.
Following her co-workers’ advice she tried to run away, but the employer caught her and brought her back. “I called the company office and the consulate and told them I couldn’t run away so they told me to call the police. So I did.” Forensic reports show that the man’s DNA was found on the woman. The court has ordered the arrest of the Emirati who failed to show up. The next hearing is on February 16.
