Duo accused of threatening to kill garage manager
1 defendant alleged to have endangered his life during a car chase
Dubai: Two men have been accused of threatening to kill a manager and repatriate his body on the first plane back to his home country following a partnership dispute.
The Armenian men, 34-year-old A.B. and 35-year-old A.K., were said to have threatened to kill the Syrian manager and his son if he did not refrain from repeatedly calling A.K.
Prosecutors said the defendants threatened the manager verbally and in writing when they claimed to him they were members of a mafia who were capable of ending his life. The Armenians were charged with threatening the manager, M.F., and harassing him over the phone.
A.B. was solely charged with intentionally endangering the life of M.F. during a car chase and swerving in front of the manager.
“I did not threaten to kill him. I didn’t speak to him. There is a financial dispute over a partnership between A.K. and the claimant. I do not have a driving licence and I don’t know how to drive to be accused of endangering his life. I don’t even have a car to do so,” said A.B. when he entered a not guilty plea before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.
A.K. did not enter a plea as he failed to show up before presiding judge Urfan Omar.
The manager testified that the incident happened when he discovered that A.K. had cheated him over the renewal of their partnership of a garage in Sharjah.
“A.K. asked me to pay Dh14,000 to renew the partnership. Shortly after he travelled, I discovered that his claims about the renewal were phoney. I phoned and asked him to pay me back the money… he avoided me for four months. Then he asked me to stop calling or contacting him. Thereafter A.B. called and threatened me… he turned out to be A.K.’s brother-in-law. They alleged to me that they were members of the mafia and threatened to kill me and repatriate my corpse on board the first plane bound for Syria. They also sent me threatening SMSs from a Russian number. They chased me on the road and tried to run into my car,” said the manager.
Records said the Syrian complained to the police immediately after his life was endangered on the road in Al Mamzar. The trial continues.
