Dubai: A worker has been jailed for six months for molesting a seven-year-old girl in a Dubai Marina flat.

The girl had gone with her mother to check out how work was progressing on a flat they were going to rent when the 25-year-old Bangladeshi worker, D.M., kissed and groped the girl in the washroom in December 2013.

The defendant had pleaded not guilty.

Records said the defendant knelt down and kissed the mother’s foot and begged her to forgive him for molesting her daughter.

“I just gave her a peck on her cheeks,” argued D.M. in court.

Presiding judge Ala’a Al Deen Fouad at the Dubai Court of First Instance said the accused will be deported following the completion of his jail term.

The mother said she and her daughter had gone to check the progress of maintenance work at the flat.

“We were waiting for the maintenance work to finish so we could move in. I walked with my girl into the washroom but when I walked out, she was missing. I spotted the defendant coming out of the washroom and then my daughter followed him out.

Immediately she asked to leave the flat, when I asked her why, she said that the defendant touched her. She told me that she was scared. When I went back and confronted the suspect, he immediately apologised and knelt down suddenly and kissed my foot. He begged me to forgive him and not to call the police,” said the mother.

The defendant’s colleagues talked him into surrendering to the police after he absconded.

A policeman cited the defendant saying that he touched the girl in order to guide her out of the washroom.

Sunday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
