The dedicated lane in some areas of Dubai are creating confusion for motorists, according to Gulf News reader Mohammad Yousuf Khan. Image Credit: Mohammad Yousuf, Gulf News reader

Recently, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) introduced dedicated lanes for buses and taxis in Al Ghubaiba Road, in Bur Dubai.

However, it has become a death trap for people residing in Al Fardan and Al Mousa buildings.

The road is so close to the exit and entry points of the residential buildings, it could result in accidents if motorists are caught unaware while trying to join the road.

Taxi drivers also drive very fast in this lane — if they hit a car, the chances for the driver's survival is negligible.

Furthermore, when driving from Mina Road to join Al Ghubaiba Road, motorists are forced to take the right turn from the second lane, as taxis and buses use the dedicated lane.

As soon as the traffic signal turns green, taxis move straight on to Al Shindagha Tunnel, while motorists try to edge their way into the right lane, to take the turn.

They run the risk of getting fined, [creating traffic congestion] or having a very bad accident.

We request the authorities to allow motorists to use the dedicated lane to enter their buildings.

There is also an urgent need for speed breakers near the exit and entry points of such residential buildings so that people can avoid losing their lives in the future.
