Manama: Saudi authorities have arrested two girls who, on a dare, disguised themselves as men and sat in a crowded cafe serving shisha.

The two girls had been promised money if they accepted to enter the cafe and sit among the men who were smoking shisha and watching a live match being broadcast on a giant television set inside.

Accompanied by four men, the girls accepted the challenge and disguised themselves as men and went to the cafe in Taif in western Saudi Arabia, Saudi news site Sabq reported.

None of the men smoking shisha and cheering the football teams inside the cafe suspected that they were girls.

The four men and the girls were eventually arrested by members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the religious police.

The investigation revealed that the two girls were university students and that they had a history of attending mixed-gender parties. One of them had absconded from home.

The police found 18 Captagon tablets with one of the four men and hashish with one of the girls.

Two of the men who were arrested reportedly worked in the security sector.
