Manama: Three Saudis have died in Pakistan after they drowned at Karachi’s Hawkesbay beach, Saudi and Pakistani reports have said.
Reports named the three Saudis as Alaa Bin Attiya Al Quthami, Abdullah Bin Faleh Al Subai, both employees at the consulate, and Fahad Fihan Al Usaimi, the son of a consulate official.
The trio died on Saturday and their bodies were recovered after more than two hours of search.
The consulate said the they were swimming in the sea and had problems with strong waves in the area.
One of the victims was found unconscious and was referred to a private hospital, but was pronounced dead later.
The beach is reportedly known for rough waters during the monsoon season and beachgoers are advised against venturing in to the sea during the period.
GeoTV reported that five people of a family drowned near Hawkesbay on August 14. They were residents of New Karachi and had gone for a picnic, GeoTV said.
According to the Tribune Express, 18 people had drowned in May at different beaches in the city.
The rise in drowning cases at Karachi’s beaches prompted the provincial government to impose a ban on swimming in the sea for six months.
"The government had notified that under Section 144 of the CrPC, a ban has been imposed on wading through, swimming and diving in the sea at the beaches of metropolis for the next six months," the newspaper said.
