Manama: Three medical consultants died in a traffic accident in Saudi Arabia after a speeding vehicle ploughed into their parked car.

A fourth consultant survived the tragedy as he was not in the car when the incident occurred.

The accident happened on Friday, about eight kilometres out of Makkah, when the four consultants — who had performed Umrah and the Friday prayers at the Grand Mosque — were heading to King Abdul Aziz airport in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, to board a plane to the capital Riyadh, where they were employed.

However, a tyre burst and the driver parked the car on the roadside, a source told Saudi daily Okaz.

One of the consultants stepped out of the car, just seconds before a speeding vehicle crushed into it, instantly killing the three consultants inside, the source added.

The victims were buried in Makkah following the funeral prayers performed at the Grand Mosque, the source added.
