Manama: A Saudi Airlines pilot aborted a commercial plane takeoff after a passenger informed him that he had forgotten his mother at the airport.

The plane was scheduled to fly from King Abdullah Airport in Jizan in the southern part of the kingdom to King Khalid Airport in the capital Riyadh.

The carrier was getting ready for takeoff when the passenger, a Saudi national, informed the crew that he left his mother at the departure hall and wanted to go back to her, local news site Sabq reported on Thursday.

The pilot aborted the takeoff and waited until the airport staff helped the mother board the plane.

Comments by bloggers were highly appreciative of the pilot for his “compassionate and graceful behaviour” and harshly critical of the passenger for his “lack of responsibility and shocking absent-mindedness.”

“People may forget a suitcase, a bag, but never ever their mothers,” one blogger posted.
