Manama: Saudi police are questioning two men after a murder at a wedding reception.
The killing occurred as the guests were having dinner at the reception marking a wedding in Khamees Mushait in southwest Saudi Arabia.
Local reports said that during the dinner, a group of young people put on traditional music for the event.
However, a guest opposed the music and asked the young men to turn it off. His request prompted a heated argument.
The man’s son joined in the verbal quarrel, and in the heat of the fight, one young man took a traditional dagger from another guest and stabbed the man and his son, Saudi daily Okaz reported on Sunday.
A spokesperson for the police confirmed the murder and said that the station received a call about a quarrel at a wedding hall that resulted in the death of a guest and in critical injuries for his son.
Eyewitnesses said that two men were implicated in the attack and the police set up road blocks that enabled the authorities to arrest them.
The witnesses confirmed that the deadly attack occurred after a guest told a group of young men to switch off the music they turned on to celebrate the wedding.
“There was a dramatic quarrel between the father and his son on one side and some young people on the other,” witnesses, quoted by the daily, said. “The son was stabbed first and when the father reacted, he too was stabbed. He was taken to a neighbouring hospital, but he died. His son is still being treated.”
