Manama: A Saudi television presenter and activist was rescued from verbal abuse and physical assault in a shopping mall in Jeddah, a Saudi news portal reported on Tuesday.
According to Sabq, Fadwa Al Tayer was in the process of filing a report in front of the camera when a young boy got into the frame.
"I told him repeatedly to walk away so that we could record the programme, but he did not really budge," Al Tayer told Sabq. "I then asked about his family to make him move. Suddenly, his brother came over, started insulting me and tried to hit me," she said.
The angry man was eventually subdued by his relatives while Al Tayer, reeling from the shock, called her brother for help.
The presenter insisted on police action, but following strong pleas and apologies from the young man as well as from his father and uncle who were on a family trip to Saudi Arabia's western coast, she agreed to drop the charges.
Al Tayer was last year named as a goodwill ambassador for the Arab Safety Organisation in appreciation of her social and media work on promoting road safety in Jeddah.
