Manama: A Saudi municipality officer has been praised for imposing a fine on a cafeteria owned by his mother.

The fine was decided after a man in the town of Awiqila in northern Saudi Arabia complained to the local health authorities that he found a fly in his sandwich.

The case was referred to the municipality and Jamal Al Enezi, the head of municipal services, imposed a fine on the cafeteria for poor food hygiene practices, Saudi daily Okaz has reported.

According to the report, Jamal was not initially aware that his own mother owned the cafeteria, but when he was informed about the situation, he insisted on going ahead with the fine.

“The cafeteria deserved the fine, and Jamal did his duty without other considerations,” the mayor Abdullah Al Enezi, said. “I am sure that if the violation were more significant, he would also take the necessary action.”

Online comments praised the officer for carrying out his duties without family considerations and called for similar action in other areas as well.
