Manama: Health authorities in Al Bahah, in the southwest of Saudi Arabia, have dismissed a local employee after he allowed his young son to drive the health ministry minibus.

An investigation was launched by the authorities after a clip of the boy, believed to be in his early teens, driving around the city was widely circulated on social networks.

Internet users accused the authorities of carelessness and of putting people’s lives at risks and called for strict action against the misuse of public property.

“We conducted our own probe and we learned that the incident happened some time ago,” Ahmad Al Zahrani, the spokesperson for the Health authorities in Al Bahah, said. “An employee, the head of transportation, admitted that the driver of the bus was his son and disciplinary action was taken. The employee will also answer charges of misusing his occupation and putting the lives of nurses at risks,” Al Zahrani added, quoted by local news site Al Weam.

However, several online users insisted that the employee, although guilty of carelessness, should not be fired and should be either demoted or transferred to another division, arguing that he should not be deprived of his source of income.
