Riyadh: King Abdullah of Jordan will arrive here Tuesday to hold wide ranging talks with the Saudi monarch Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz. The entire gamut of bilateral issues as well as regional and international topics of mutual concern will be figured in the talks. The leaders will also discuss ways to revive the stalled peace process, and moves to ensure Arab reconciliation and solidarity to “counter Israeli manoeuvrings.”

Speaking to Gulf News, Jordanian diplomatic sources said that the Saudi-Jordanian summit will focus on strengthening Arab solidarity and common interests to confront the challenges of immediate future that would require consultation and coordination to protect Arab national security. The diplomats commended the pivotal role being played by Riyadh in bolstering stability in the region.

“Discussions at the summit will be composite in nature with particular focus on Arab initiatives to realise the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people in establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital,” the sources said.

The Jordanian monarch will meet Saudi Crown Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz and congratulate him on his safe return after undergoing successful surgery abroad and full recovery of the illness.

According to the sources, King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz will brief the Jordanian monarch on the latest developments on Saudi-Yemeni border and the success of the Kingdom’s armed forces in putting an end to the infiltration of Al Houthi rebels. The Jordanian king will reiterate his country’s full support for the measures taken by the Kingdom to deter infiltrators, protect the security and sovereignty of Saudi territory and repel any trespassing.

King Abdullah will also discuss with the Jordanian monarch the ongoing dialogue under the mediation of Cairo to end internal division among Palestinian factions. Their talks will also figure highly the position of Hamas with regard to Al Houthis’ threat to Saudi Arabia. Hamas leader Khaled Mesha’al, during his recent visit to Riyadh, had categorically denied reports that there has been cooperation between Hamas and Iran in supporting Shiite Al Houthi rebels. The summit talks will also cover the Iranian nuclear issue and ways to end the stand off between Iran and the international community in this regard.
