Manama: A prison in Saudi Arabia is keeping up its traditions and celebrated the wedding of an inmate with great fanfare, setting an elaborately decorated area for the celebrations and providing all facilities.

The management of the prison in Buraydah, the capital of Al Qasem Region in north central Saudi Arabia, also provided food and drinks for the families, and friends of the inmate and his bride.

The groom was also offered a gift from Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Nayef Al Saud, who is also the kingdom’s interior minister, Saudi news site Sabq reported on Sunday.

The celebrations, in line with the traditions in the kingdom, were not mixed.

Buraydah has a tradition of holding marriage ceremonies for inmates, keeping up with directives from the crown prince and interior minister to provide care and assistance for detainees.

In September 2013 and October last year, similar wedding ceremonies were held in the prison and, according to reports, the management did their best to ensure the setting and atmosphere was at least as attractive as the celebratory mood in public wedding halls.

Under Saudi prison regulations, inmates have the right to get married and special family rooms have been set up for the purpose in most jails.
