Manama: An elaborate wedding ceremony was recently held for a Saudi inmate in prison in Buraidah in Qassim province.

The event was celebrated with great fanfare by the prison management who did their best to ensure the setting and atmosphere were at least as attractive as the celebratory mood in public wedding halls, reports in the media said.

The celebrations were held in a family day room inside the prison and radiated joy and happiness, the reports added.

Under Saudi prison regulations, inmates have the right to get married and special family rooms have been set up for the purpose in most Saudi prisons.

Jail officials say that the marriage of prisoners has several benefits for them, and speeds up their reformation process and their rehabilitation.

They insist that prisoners form a large segment of Saudi society and that they should be helped into reintegrating it.
