Dubai: A ballistic missile from Yemen was intercepted Thursday by Saudi air defence forces in southern city of Khamis Mushait in the south western province of Assir, the Al Arabiya website said.

The missile attack is the second this month since the November 4 missile intercepted near King khalid International Airport in Riyadh.

The Arab League in November 19 cited that since the beginning of conflict in Yemen, 78 ballistic missiles have been fired towards Saudi Arabia from Yemen.

Meanwhile, thousands of Yemenis gathered in Sana’a  after deadly clashes between Iran-backed Al Houthi militants and their allies sparked fears of further violence in the capital.

The clashes, which erupted late on Wednesday near Sana’a’s Saleh mosque, killed nine Al Houthis and five supporters of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, medical sources said.

The infighting threatens to unravel the fragile rebel alliance that has been battling the government of President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi in Yemen’s war.

Al Houthi militants and army units loyal to Saleh made common cause to fan out through Yemen in 2015.

But they have fought between themselves briefly once before in August.
