Manama: Six members of a Pakistani family died in a horrific accident in Saudi Arabia when their car collided with a lorry.
Sources told Saudi Arabic daily Al Sharq that the accident victims were three children aged two, six and 13, two men aged 22 and 44 and one woman, 38.
The head-on collision occurred on Wednesday on the highway between the Saudi capital Riyadh and Taif, a city in the province of Makkah.
Three injured people were transferred to hospital.
In Tanoumah in the southern province of Asir, a father and his son who were killed in a road accident were laid to rest.
Reports said that their car smashed into a lorry parked on the side of the road late on Tuesday evening.
Initial investigations proved that the lorry driver failed to take precautionary safety measures after parking in a dangerous area.
In the Eastern Province resort of Al Khobar, a man and a woman were killed on Wednesday in a head-on collision between two cars.
According to Al Sharq, the driver, an Asian national, died on the spot while the woman passed away at the hospital where she was taken by paramedics.
Four people, including one woman, were injured in the accident.
In Al Harth, in the southern part of the vast Saudi kingdom, one student was killed and ten others were injured when their car smashed into a house wall.
The middle school students on a field trip to a farm were being driven through a village when the accident occurred.
Two students have been kept at the hospital for further treatment, a spokesperson for the police said.
With an alarming high accident rate, Saudi Arabia authorities have been pushing for promoting a safer traffic culture. However, statistics indicate that they are facing a monumental task.
