Manama: Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud has rewarded a Saudi national and a Chadian expatriate with SR1 million ($266,615) each for saving an 11-year-old boy from a blaze.

Saudi Mohammad Ismail Omar Shammaa and Chadian Mustafa Ahmad Mohammad were offered the generous reward for their heroism, quick thinking and fast action in rescuing the boy from the fire caused by the explosion of a gas cylinder at their home in the Red Sea resort of Jeddah.

The reward is for their distinguished efforts in saving a boy's life and for setting an example of the role of citizens and residents in maintaining security and safety standards in a society of cooperation, cohesion and compassion, Prince Mohammad Bin Nayef Bin Abdul Aziz, the interior ministry undersecretary for security affairs, told Mohammad and Mustafa as he received them.

The Civil Defence had earlier offered SR 100,000 ($26,661) to each of the two heroes.
