Manama: Health sources in the Saudi western city of Madinah said that the two foreigners who escaped from a health centre on Sunday were not from any of the African countries afflicted with the deadly Ebola virus.

“Two unidentified men from an eastern African country came to the health centre in Salila at around 9 on Sunday morning,” Abdul Razzaq Bin Abdul Aziz Hafedh, the head of public relations in Madinah, said. “They were complaining of respiratory problems and blood in the urine. Medical tests concluded the absence of high temperatures. The doctor recommended their transfer to a hospital to follow up on the check-up and provide them with the necessary treatment. However, they ran away, prompting the health authorities to inform the police,” he said in remarks carried by local news site Sabq.

The two men are believed to have run away to avoid being arrested for not possessing the legal documents required to stay and work in the kingdom.

Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have been exploring ways to coordinate their efforts to ward off any Ebola virus risks and threats.
