Manama: A family in Saudi Arabia is struggling to deal with a series of unfortunate tragedies that have struck in a matter of hours.

According to media reports, a mother, upon returning home from work in Yanbu, a major Red Sea city, could not open the locked door of her house after leaving her four-year-old daughter with the Asian helper.

When she requested the helper to open the door, she reportedly refused and threatened to kill the daughter. The frightened mother promptly called her husband at work to tell him about the dramatic situation and he called the civil defence, urging them to take action before the domestic helper could carry out her threat.

The father, hurriedly making his way home, then had an accident in which one man was killed and he was seriously injured, local Arabic daily Al Madinah reported on Thursday. Civil defence servicemen then forced their way into the house as the father was taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, the mother stormed into the master bedroom where her young daughter was being held by the domestic helper, to find that the maid had reportedly cut off the child’s head.

The mother, in abject shock, lost consciousness and had to be taken to a Yanbu hospital for treatment.

Police in Madinah said that they received a call at about 1.30pm from the civil defence informing them that a woman teacher had returned home from work to find the front door locked and the family’s domestic helper inside, refusing to unlock it.

The civil force discovered the Asian helper had severed the head of the four-year child with a sharp object. The helper, whose nationality was not revealed, was arrested and an investigation has been launched.
