Manama: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Nayef Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud has issued orders to take prompt legal action against those who assaulted a Saudi man and his sisters and smashed up their cars.

The prince, also the kingdom’s interior minister, insisted on the application of a zero-tolerance policy in the case that occurred on Wednesday near a mall in Dammam, the Eastern Province main city, local news site Sabq said.

A video clip showing the uniformed men smashing the cars with large sticks went viral, prompting wide condemnation and calls for stringent action against those involved in the highly unfamiliar scuffle.

“The police in Dammam were informed about the fight between three Saudi nationals and a group of Arab expatriates,” Ziyad Al Ruqaiti, the spokesperson for the Eastern Province, said.

“The fight was over purchases from a shop where the foreigners worked. The brawl resulted in light injuries to Saudi citizens and one Arab expatriate,” he said.

Al Ruqaiti added that 16 foreigners were arrested and that all parties involved in the fracas were referred to the commission of investigation and public prosecution.

Some sites said that brawl started when the Saudis wanted to return items they had bought from the shop.
