Manama: Qatar will on Saturday launch its first radio in French, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

"The Oryx Radio Station will start broadcasting its French programmes on December 18 to coincide with the celebrations of Qatar's National Day," the official news agency said.

"The first day's programmes will be dedicated to various national emissions and productions. However, the preliminary broadcast on 94.00 FM is scheduled to start on December 16."

According to QNA, the new broadcasting service is the result of cooperation between the Qatar Foundation for Media and Radio France International (RFI).
"Oryx will be broadcasting 24 hours a day and all its studios are equipped with the latest audio techniques and digital systems," the agency said.

The new radio station plans to expand its transmission into the other countries of the region.
