Manama: Qatar’s private sector has set up a powerful panel to lobby with the government to ensure that local companies have a lion’s share in lucrative 2022 event-linked development projects.
The lobby, under the umbrella of Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI), will be headed by Shaikh Khalifa Bin Jassem Al Thani, the high-profile chairman of QCCI.
"We want all major contracts whether in civic or sports infrastructure to come to Qatari companies. We are competent enough to deliver,” a source in the QCCI, representative body of the private sector told Qatari daily The Peninsula.
The panel will keep in close touch with all ministries, government agencies and officials concerned with evolving and awarding the development projects related to the 2022 event.
“We will coordinate actively with the government to bag key contracts and we will also be in touch with local companies," the source said.
The panel has been assigned with the additional task of informing local companies what projects are up for grabs during the run-up to the 2022 event. "Then we will tell them how to bid for the contracts. We will guide them,” the source said.
"Local players will be encouraged to have partnerships with major world companies that would want to enter the local market to bid for the key development projects."
