Doha: Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) will next month launch the new season of its Sustainability Education and Professional Development Programme.

Aimed at creating technical awareness and knowledge of green buildings and sustainability in Qatar, the new season of the education programme will feature an array of standardised courses and workshops, the council said in a statement.

The courses will highlight a multitude of related topics, including sustainability in the built environment, rating systems, essentials of a green building, and green buildings’ certification process.

Since the launch of the programme in November 2014, over 1,100 trainees have attended numerous courses encompassing 16 different topics related to green buildings and sustainability.

In addition, to mark the start of the new season, QGBC has launched a survey that seeks to understand and identify gaps in Qatar’s green building and sustainability education sector.

The ‘What will you learn this year, 2016?’ survey will help QGBC expand its current portfolio of professional development training courses to respond to the ever increasing demand in the country.

“Education and sustainability-oriented professional development in Qatar are key pillars of QGBC’s mission to foster awareness and understanding of green buildings in Qatar,” Meshal Al Shamari, QGBC director, said.

“QGBC is offering specialised sustainability education programmes in partnership with leading national and international education providers, including the US Green Building Council. We continuously work with our partners and our network of sustainability professionals locally, regionally and internationally to expand the existing education portfolio in an effort to bridge the gaps between theory and implementation.”

The survey’s outcome will be shared with the wider community to provide a thorough insight into sustainability trainings in Qatar and to enhance knowledge of sustainability, the statement added.

“We have been delighted to witness the success of this programme since its inception in 2014,” Hamouda Yousuf, Head of Communications at QGBC, said. “Our research and education team continuously study the market to help tailor the courses and workshops to the needs of the professionals and, in large, for the whole industry. We always encourage designers, consultants, engineers, architects, contractors, corporate executives and students to join our courses.”
